Living in the Golden State:

The living room and fireplace

This is the view of the living room, with furniture. The couches we'd had in Connecticut were a little too big for this space, and were "assisted" in becoming obsolete by the cats. The purple couch is relatively new, delivered to the house in August 2006.

On the wall is a map of Martha's Vineyard, off the coast of Massachusetts. On the mantel, such as it is, are Gerry's samurai swords. So far, he's had no occasion to use them. Below them is the fireplace. Both California places we've lived in have had fireplaces. As stated elsewhere on the site, we haven't had a fire in either one. It just doesn't get cold enough in winter to bother. Instead, it's full of candles.
